Altranet Lhasa - Kathmandu Mountainbiking Tour x 23 days

Altranet Lhasa - Kathmandu

Introduction:

We are the first discoverer in finding out the alternative bike routes from Kathmandu-Lhasa since the last 3 years. This biking expedition is pretty much similar to the 16 days and 20 days program as explained above. However, we encourage our adventure lovers to involve in this lengthy holiday program, especially those who can manage a long holiday leave, plenty enough budget coverage and would like to gain exclusive knowledge and experience of their unforgettable memories of their life by exploring the far remote and wonders of the earth that any adventurers hardly ever trodden in the past.
On this expedition, Himalayan Leaders can lead its biking teams to hidden and lost  natural parts of the world such as Namtso lake, gorges, ice falls, grassy vast plateaus tremendously rich by nature. Like wise, our bike-riding group really feels a moment of fantasy while traveling the cross-country tribal villages, the original life living by the indigenous people and nomads; and other several ancient monasteries and monuments rich equally by culture that hardly or never discovered by outsiders.

Cultural tour in nepal

Day 05: Sightseeing of Lhasa (3600m) o/n in a hotel (B)

This morning we will visit the Potala Palace, which dominates the city of Lhasa. A spectacular building, it contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand staterooms and many important chapels. There has been a palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present palace was constructed in the 17th century. A visit to the Drepung Monastery this afternoon will complete a truly awe- inspiring day. Founded in the 14th century, this monastery was once the largest in the world with a population of around 10,000 monks. These days that figure is down to several hundred, but there is still much here of interest as it was left relatively unscathed during the Cultural Revolution

We have to cover those last kilometers on horseback as the rules changed in 2004 and no vehicles or bikes are allowed to Base Camp.

From the pass we go downhill to reach a river across which there is no bridge - time to take off our shoes and wade through the cold, knee-deep water.
