Day by day itinerary
Day 01:
This trip starts from the capital Kathmandu. On the first day we drive 200 km to the north-western area of Pokhara, the second city of Nepal. It's a long six hours but certainly not boring drive, because of the scenic surroundings along the river and the views of the green valley and the increasingly hilly area. The highway follows a series of deep river valleys, passing ancient stone villages, cascading rice terraces, rocky gorges and roaring rapids crossed by precarious suspension bridges. There are several stops where you can taste the famous Ginger tea or a bowl of traditional steamed momo’s. In the afternoon we reach Pokhara, a popular and lively destination with small shops and many international restaurants. The city offers a rich combination of nature and culture. Pokhara is also the starting point for adventurous trips to the mountains of Annapurna.
We stay in a hotel in the center overlooking the large Phewa lake. In no place in Nepal mountains rise as quickly as here. Within a radius of 30 km the altitude climbs from 1,000 to over 7,500 meters! Meanwhile the subtropical climate pampers visitors with nice temperatures between 25-35 ° C in summer and in winter it remains comfortable with 5-15 ° C. Above the city you have a magical view of the three giants over 8000 meters high: The Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu and amidst them there is the majestic Annapurna Machapuchare. This mountain dominates the panorama from Pokhara with its two peaks.
Day 02:
After breakfast it's worth a walk to the lake and sit and overview the himalayas on one of the many benches along the lake. The view guaranteed will take your breath! Furthermore, Pokhara is also particularly interesting because of the many underground caves and wild waterfalls within walking distance located to the south. Descend through narrow metal stairs in the deep caves of Mahendra, Bat and Gupteswor.
After lunch we take a taxi to Sarangkot for a spectacular sunset and sunrise in the Himalayas! The 45-minutes drive from Pokhara goes up steeply on a partially unpaved road. Sarangkot is nearly 1600 meters and marks the start for the walk up along the green slopes to the highest viewpoint. The climb is tough due to many steps, but the reward awaits you there. Above is also our Sherpa hotel with a completely unobstructed view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. From the rooftop we wait for the sunset on the peaks that delivers a red flamed panorama. Do not forget to look also to the other way, to the beautiful rice paddies and Phewa lake that mysteriously disappear into the mists of the sunset.
At the end of the night we're already leaving for a different view point for the magic sunrise that is as spectacular and can not to be missed! During our walk down, we stop for a good breakfast in one of the small and typically Nepalese restaurants. After we begin the short trek (2-3h) which brings us along the rice terraces and dense forests all the way down to Pokhara! The local farmers and their children are always interested in a little chat. At the end of the afternoon we reach our hotel for one last night in Pokhara.
Day 03:
This morning we drive in 3 hours from Pokhara to the little mountain village of Bandipur. The road winds up along many beautiful rice terraces overlooking the Marshyangdi valley and the broad Trisuli River.
In Bandipur we are treated for a living museum of Newari architecture and culture. Bandipur is famous for nice walks and numerous enchanting views of the Himalayas. We stay at the Bandipur Mountain Resort which is the ideal spot to gaze at the enchanting mountains and lies strategically under a mixed canopy of pine and sal forests, offers the finest views of the area. Bandipur breathes Nepali traditional life with colorful narrow streets and a lively outdoor living of its population.
Day 04:
After breakfast we drive in 90 minutes to Gorkha, situated at an altitude of 1,135 meter, is the ancestral hometown of the Nepal's ruling royal family. Gorkha is only 18 km up a paved road of the Pokhara-Kathmandu Highway. The British term "Gurkha" evolved from the name Gorkha, referring to the famed fighting soldiers of the region.
Gorkha's centerpiece is the magnificent Gorkha Durbar with a fort, a palace and a temple with excellent views of the surrounding valleys, and the Mansalu range. We will visit the Gorkha palace here to begin your sightseeing of the region. Climb the palace steps from the bottom of the hill, all the way to the top, climbing about one thousand seven hundred steps (1700), in about one hour. We finally will reach the temple of the Goddess Gorakhkali for a good rest (drink pure mountain water from original springs!) and calling the Gods by ringing one of the bells. It feels like top of the world overviewing the Mansalu and Himalchuli peaks of Himalayas.
We stay at a hotel that overviews the broad valley and has a big terrace where we can choose from many traditional Nepali menus. This is the place for a traditional Dal Bath, like with Kalo Dal (Black Lentils) and Tarkari (Vegetable Curry).
