India Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking in India

Introduction:

From Delhi, we take the night bus for Manali. We reach Manali the next day afternoon. You will ride in the surroundings of Manali, apple orchards, villages, hot spring etc. From Manali, the actual biking tour starts with a gradual climb to Marhi at 3000m, just half way on the Rothang pass. The landscape changes when we cross Rothang la (3980m) and we are surrounded by Himalayan Mountains. We require at least 2 nights stay in Jispa for acclimatization.

Here, you will get acquaintance of Buddhist Culture. We make excursion to Keylong, the district head quarter of Lahol- Spiti. Here you will visit Gemur Monasteryand royal castles. One- hour easy biking brings us in Darcha from where a steep climb begins crossing Zing Zingbar alll the way upto Barlacha-La (4830M). We further ride in this rugged country and reach Sarchu(4253m) where we sleep in tents. After biking along the 21 loops, we arrive Namikala pass. Pang, which is 77km from Sarchu and at an ultimate challenge- Tanglang La (5065m) pass, the second highest motorable pass in the world. This is the point for an unforgettable view.
Another 199-km push brings us to Upshi announcing one's return to a civilization-no less than Indus valley civilization. Now Leh is 51 km. We reach there late in the afternoon. Leh, situated at 3505 m is the capital city of Ladakh- the little Tibet. In Leh, you will visit Shey monastery which is medieval Buddhist architecture. Thiksey monastery is built on high rock and is reminiscent of Potala Palace of Lhasa. This is a superb viewpoint to Indus Valley. We visit Hemis Monastery, which has mysterious atmosphere where monks mumble their parchment praying rolls surrounded by very old statues of Buddha, scarcely lit by butter. From Leh, you would love to climb 40 km to reach the highest motor able pass in the world- Khardung La that is 5602m from the sea level. You will be one of the few pioneers who achieved this top ever since this pass was opened for tourists in 1994. From Leh, you will fly back to Delhi.
