The trek in this region can be made from one to three weeks. This area offer an experience not found elsewhere. The trails are challenging with long, steep climbs and descents, often through deep forests or across glacial moraines. Ganesh Himal, not frequented by many tourists and situated in central Nepal, northwest of Kathmandu is characterized by the terraced hillsides that seem to climb to the sky. This trek is the most challenging in the area and requires full camping equipment. The Ganjala Pass is also difficult and can be dangerous when snow covered, so to ensure a safe crossing we must enquire locally about its condition. Some mountaineering experience is also necessary. We normally find that the pass is open from April to November, but unusual weather can alter its condition at any time.

To the north east of Kathmandu lies the Jugal Himal, which includes Dorche Lakpa (6966m), Madiya (6257m) and Phurbi Chhyachu (6637m). From the south this is an easily accessible region, though it requires a long, uphill climb. Just above Dolaghat, on the KFriendship high way, a road leads to the large bazaar of Chautara, at 1410m. Our trek starts here, climbing to a ridge and following it north to Pach Pokhari, the Five Lakes, at 3600m. We continue to Tarke Gyang in Helambu and then head back down though Sermathang to reach Melamchipull Bazaar and Pachkhal on the Kodari road.
