Day by day itinerary
Day 01: Arrive and transfer to, Lhasa, 3650m, o/n in a hotel,
Morning transfer to Kathmandu airport and fly to Lhasa. You will have a 1 hour and 10 minutes lasting Trans Himalayan Flight to Lhasa which is considered one of the most beautiful flights in the world. It takes us over the Everest (8848m) and the Kanchenjunga (8536m). You will be met by our Tibetan guide at Gonggar airport. After immigration formalities and a 1.5 hour drive along a 93 km road you will reach Lasha. It's advisable to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the day due to Lhasa's altitude.

 

Day 02: Sightseeing around in Lhasa, o/n in a hotel,
Our tour begins with a visit to Sera Monastery with an experienced tour guide. Sera Monastery is a preserved monastery of white washed walls and golden roofs. Equally adventurous and exciting rhythm build up while touring Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Jokhang Temple is another important sacred site which unravels more deep seated mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism.

 

Day 03: Sightseeing in Lhasa, o/n in a hotel,
Today your visit to Potala palace and Drepung monastery will bestow invaluable insights. From the Mar Po Ri Hill where the the 17th century great monumental structure Potala Palace stands you can get an awesome view of the entire city. The interior space of the Potala Palace consists of 130,000 square meters and contains the private headquarters of the Dalai Lama, numerous grand state rooms and chapels. Your next visit will be to Drepung Monastery, a residence of the Dalai Lama before the Potala Palace which was built in the 14th century and used to shelter around 10,000 monks in the past.

 

Day 04: Drive to Namutso Lake (220 Km, 6 hrs, 4700 M) o/n in guesthouse,

Day 05: Excursion around the lakeside and back to Lhasa. En route we visit Yangbachen’s hot springs (280 Km, 7 hrs) o/n in a hotel

 

Day 06: Drive to Gyantse (265km, 5hrs, 3950m) o/n in a hotel,
Following the Friendship Highway, while driving past Khamba La (4794 m), you will have a break to appreciate the majestic views of YamdrokTso Lake, a lake deep blue in color and of Nazin Kang Sang glacier standing proud at 7252m. Ahead in the west, you come across the Karo La pass at 5045m. When you glance into the distance, you can see huge glaciers tumbling down into the road. After a couple of hours driving (261 km), you enter the town of Gyantse where you will see beautifully landscaped Tibetan villages.

 

Day 07: Drive to Shigatse (92km, 2hrs, 3900m) o/n in a hotel,
In the morning, after breakfast, we visit Gyantse’s pride: Gyantse Dzong and Kumbum. Gyantse Dzong is a historical fort built in the 14th century and overlooks a mesmerizing view of entire Gyantse and surrounding Nyang Chu Valley. Kumbum has a large gold domed, 35 meter high chorten (stupa) and houses several chapels and Tibetan Buddhist murals. “Kubum” means “100,000 images” in Tibetan. After enjoying and exploring Gyantse, you will take a 90 km drive to Shigatse. Shalu monastery built with Han, Tibetan and Indian style architecture is about one and half hour far from Gyantse on the way to Shigatse. After a brief visit of the monastery you drive further to Shigatse (3900 m), the second largest city of Tibet. Tashilhunpo Monastery is the major attraction of Shigatse being one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet.

Day 08: Drive to Shegar (274km 5/6hrs, 3950m) o/n in a hotel
Today you will continue along the Friendship Highway amidst a picturesque landscape, driving past the small town of Lhatse and over the Gyamtso La pass at 5220m. You will visit Natang Monastery which is 12 Kms far from Xigatse. You will drive to Sakya Monastery, where you can see the largest book in the world in Sakya's great library written in gold. In the evening time we reach in Shegar. As the route opens into the plains, many monasteries and camps of nomadic herders become visible on the route to Shegar.

 

Day 09: Drive to Rongbuk (85 km 2hrs, 5150m) o/n in guesthouse
Away from Shegar you drive to the south crossing Pang La pass at 5150m. Along the drive, you can laze around in the splendor of majestic views of the snow capped peaks of Makalu and Shishapangma. After driving for 68 km, you reach Rongbuk at 5000m from where you get spectacular sight of Mt. Everest. You will visit Ronbuk Monastery.

 

Day 10: Explore Everest base camp and drive to Lo Tingri (65 km) o/n in a hotel,
Your morning time will be spent exploring Everest Base Camp, 5150m. It is a truly awe inspiring place with the absolute north face of the highest mountain in the world soaring above you. Only expeditions are allowed beyond Rongbuk so you need to walk 8 km or take a horse cart or a local bus to reach the base camp. After lunch, you return to the Friendship Highway and drive to Tingri.

Day 11: Drive to Zhangmu (182 km 4 hrs, 2300m) o/n in a hotel,
After driving past Tingri crossing Lalung La pass at 5124m and Shung La pass at 5200m, savoring the enchanting views of the surrounding peaks of Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar, you tumble down from the dry Tibetan Plateau. After driving for 181 km, you find yourself amidst the verdant and fertile vegetation of Zhangmu at 2300 meter (border of Nepal).

 

Day 12: Drive to Kathmandu (123km, 4 hrs, 1350m)
A few kilometers drive away from Zhangmu lies the Friendship Bridge. Across Bhote Koshi River is the Immigration Control of Kodari where you depart with your Tibetan guide and driver. You walk over the bridge to meet the Nepalese guide to drive you to Kathmandu. After 4 hours of driving through deep valleys, you arrive in Kathmandu.
